Fit through the Christmas season: with tips from StolComfort

15. December 2021
André Heyden

Health and fitness? Isn't that more of a topic for the New Year, when all the good intentions are realised - or not? Of course you should enjoy the Christmas period and not slavishly stick to some diet or the latest fitness programme. On the other hand, you want to get off to a good start in 2022 and not miss out due to back pain, tension or a long-term injury. That doesn't have to be the case either. Our tips will help you get through the holidays in good shape!

Have you already put up the Christmas tree and decorated it festively? If not, we recommend that you simply cut the tree yourself. It's usually cheaper than buying the Christmas tree, a nice ritual and also provides some extra exercise. And we can all use that before Christmas, can't we? Exactly. But don't behave like an axe in the forest, but do it like a pro. Because real woodcutters know that only the right posture prevents back pain when felling trees. In addition to a sharp axe and work gloves, you should therefore also make sure your posture is stable. Get the momentum from your back and shoulders - not your arms. Even if you are using a saw, a stable posture without a hunched back is important. Once the tree has been felled, you should pull the trunk behind you or carry it with two people to distribute the weight over several shoulders.

Less is more - especially during family celebrations

Sauerbraten, red cabbage and mascarpone for dessert - Christmas dinner with the family does what biscuits and mulled wine alone couldn't do. Depending on the size of the family, people get together several times for a festive meal and on Boxing Day at the latest, you might fancy a green salad and a still mineral water. Even if roasts and sauces are often quite greasy: In most cases, the type of food is not the problem, but rather the quantity. Our recommendation: If your relatives come back for seconds several times, you should resist the temptation. Chewing slowly, consciously savouring the different flavours and sitting up straight will ensure that you feel full sooner and won't have a stone in your stomach afterwards. These are tips that your grandmother probably already had at the ready, but unfortunately are rarely followed today. Of course, you can also simply change your diet and replace the greasy Christmas goose with one of these healthy dishes:

  • Roast turkey with chilli-honey glaze
  • Salmon in a herb coating
  • A vegetarian Buddha bowl with extra vegetables

Not necessarily healthy, but light and delicious is of course the classic sausage with potato salad. And you can easily make the latter yourself.

Stay mobile - even without sport

After eating, many people usually head straight to the couch. The problem is that this doesn't get your digestion going and all the sitting and lying down eventually causes tension or back pain. Instead, grab your dog (or partner) and go for a run around the block. Sledging with the children the next day is also a good idea. After all, it's you who gets to pull the sledge back up the hill and that really gets the muscles in your legs going.

Self-employed or self-employed and permanent?

Not all of us have time off at Christmas. The self-employed and entrepreneurs in particular have to work between the holidays or even on the holidays themselves. So that you can still switch off a little, you should get up and move around for at least 15 minutes every hour. Of course, the quality of your office chair is also crucial if you want to work healthily. So it's no wonder that professional groups who keep our backs free at Christmas - police officers, firefighters or control centre staff - rely on the 24 chairs from our range. See for yourself and order your free test chair directly to your home. Until then, we wish you a Merry Christmas and lots of time with all those close to you!
